Gamers won’t have to put up with titles released without Trophies.
ps3 final hardware 11 – PS3 Trophies to be mandatory from…VideoGamer.com can exclusively reveal that from January 2009 all newly released PS3 games will be required by Sony to support the console’s Trophy system.
Earlier this week VideoGamer.com received a tip from an anonymous source within the UK video game industry that, from January 2009 onwards, all newly released PS3 titles will be required to support the PS3 Trophy system.
Today a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe spokesperson confirmed that this information is accurate, stating: “Yes from Jan 09 all games must have trophies.”
This news is sure to be met very positively by PS3 gamers who are currently having to put up with sporadic Trophy support from this winter’s biggest releases. Mandatory Trophy support will also put an end to post release Trophy patches that force gamers to replay games to earn the Trophies.
Hahahahaha. So you see I be on top of my toes like my shoes are off. Click Here
I do not want Trophies, Money or not even a title saying I am number "1". You can have your cheap trophies, paper titles, and dingy headbands. 11/29/2008 at 10:49 am #31966Lol the PS3 just got ruined too. Not buying one now.
Achievements and trophies take away from games, I’m about to go buy a new PS2, GameCube and fire up my old N64.
It seems like all people play games for these days is achievements lmao. Not really talking about you Talon in particular, I just have been reading a lot of gaming blogs and articles from gaming websites and editors, etc. and all these damn people talk about is “this game is good, easy achievements” lmao, that shit pisses me off.
is there a way to turn off your “achievement unlocked” indicator? it really distracts me from games..

Nah man, the achievement and trophy system is a genious way to keep coming back to old games. They keep you playing because you want to strive to get those achievements. Fair enough there are some games out there that do have easy as hell achievements and people mostly rent them out to increase their gamerscore quickly.
It’s like me now, i’ve been playing alot of Mortal Kombat 3 on the live arcade because i want to get the online achievements, but thats means i have to practice and learn the moves and combos because there are some beasts on there and the achievements give me that incentive to keep playing.
I’d be very disappointed if they took away this system now and is something they need to include in future consoles.11/29/2008 at 11:07 am #31971But then you are just playing a game to get the achievements, not to play the game that they made. You don’t feel that takes away from the game?
I’m not trying to insult anyone with this, I think the system is okay, but it is abused by some gamers and overdone (I’ve seen people with 300,000+ gamerscores and shit). Gaming has changed soooo much, and I’m not sure I like the new generation and the way it’s headed…I feel like I’m growing away from gaming because of this achievement stuff.
I’m not saying I’m anything special for not going after achivements. Because I’ll be honest, I go out of my way some times to unlock achievements too…and I honestly don’t know why I do that…It’s like this shit gets addicting.
But I also find myself clicking the middle guide button on my controller every time an achievement unlocks, and I find it taking my attention away from the game world.
Idk just my opinion on the whole achievements/trophies being mandatory on games…Why can’t companies make games without them? Doesn’t make sense to me.

I don’t just play games for the achivements. Every game i have bought i have liked and i’ve played them, but say if i have completed the game or just lost interest in it over time then i will come back to it to see if i can get any achievements and hopefully find something new about the game i like. Like i said with Mortal Kombat 3. I was playing to get the achievements but now i’ve learned some pretty sick combos and i’m enjoying the game alot more.
11/30/2008 at 1:12 am #31974Yeah…
But there’s almost no games these days that I play like I played Majora’s Mask, Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Goldeneye, etc…
Maybe I’m just losing interest tho, maybe the achievements have nothing to do with it 🙁

Or maybe games are just not as good as they used to be.
In my opinion that is true. I’ve said of many occasions that if i was given a choice to have one console for the rest of my life then i would choose the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) or the Snes.
The games catalogue on those 2 systems was crazy.
If i could play only one game for the rest of my life then it would be Super Mario World. I cannot tell you how many times i have completed that game over the years but i can still play it now and it’s still fresh.
I can always go back and play those systems and still have major fun without worrying about trophies or achievements. Hell when i have some friends round the house we’d rather play some Mario Kart 64 than Gears or Halo.11/30/2008 at 3:58 pm #31965Red Fangs wrote:Yeah…But there’s almost no games these days that I play like I played Majora’s Mask, Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Goldeneye, etc…

Maybe it has more to do with the trend towards easier games these last few console generations. Remember when you had to be good at a game to complete it. Too many games come out with infinite continues, simple AI, and rail style game play…Im sometimes disenchanted too.

See you don’t get the picture of the Trophies system. Look it to bring up the replay value of certain games. If you notice, you will most likely not play a game multiple times unless you know somebody else have done it. The Trophy/Achievement system is why they have done that. You can always lie about beating a game, but if you can prove it then you all good. Also, it help bring out the competition between friends even more. Just ask Scatigno about our Trophies whoring adventures.

11/30/2008 at 10:09 pm #31990Maybe you guys are right…Maybe games these days NEED achievements/trophies for people to replay them. Where as games back then you wanted to replay them.
I honestly can’t name a game lately that I want to replay over and over…
Even last-gen had games I replayed though, such as Knights of the Old Republic 1&2 (beat about 3 times each), the first Halo (beat like 5 times), Resident Evil 4 on my GC (beat like 5 times).
Just some examples…But doesn’t it seem to anyone else, like games these days, for the most part (there are some exceptions) focus more on graphics than what the player wants, more on graphics than gameplay and enjoyment.
Yes, games these days are more than superior to last-gen graphics, but I would play Donkey Kong 64, Super Mario 64, Starfox, MarioKart, Goldeneye, Donkey Kong Country, Starcraft 64, Majora’s Mask, Ocarina of Time, etc a million times over. I’ve never been truly addicted or hooked really to any next-gen games…
Can anyone say they have been hooked or absolutely CAN NOT STOP playing a game or put it down, you just have to beat it…?

Well i was definately hooked to COD 4 and i played that online all the time and there was no online achievements. Also Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. I’ve completed that about 5 times now, even without the addition of trophies i would still be playing it coz that game is that good.
12/01/2008 at 7:11 pm #32005You guys really make me wanna buy a PS3 just to play draks fortune, sounds like such an amazing game.
…Yeah I played COD 4 a lot online too, and every time my buddy came over we’d play games online (we’d switch, he’d play then i’d play it.) but thats where they fucked up on that game, no single system co-op. i think that is the most retarded shit. that game would’ve been 10 times better with co-op IMO. still an okay game tho…
I’ve been addicted to Left 4 Dead since I bought it, even with random groups of people (none of my friends have the game yet), it’s still such a blast. It really never gets old to me.
12/01/2008 at 7:13 pm #32006Then again I was hooked on Oblivion when I first got it…
and BioShock…I put lots of hours into that game (mostly just looking at everything in the game).
I needa pick those two games back up now…
I really wanna get Fallout 3 i think I’ll be addicted to that
