I got in a conversation with a homegirl of mine about an event happening today from 12PM-6PM EST called a Cell Out in which people from all over the world will be turning off their cell phones in protest of the War in the Congo which is being fueled by the mining of a mineral called Coltan. Coltan is also an important element used in the development of other products from laptops to video game consoles. Sony’s release of its Playstation 2 a few years back caused a major spike in Coltan mining fueling a lot of the destruction in the region.

I’m a gamer so I’m not going to just stop playing videogames because of this information, but at the same time its good to know what is going on in the world and I will be more conscious of issues such as this one.

I heard about this a long time ago. I think they are, but they will find another method towards it.
