Following on with the Survival-Horror genre, we arrive at Silent Hill. A genuine rival to Capcom’s Resident Evil series, Konami upped the ante with their first offering and provided an intense and psychological experience that some say actually stands tall and proud above the Resi games.
It certainly is a great game, and playing it again for the purpose of this thread after all these years it has lost none of it’s creepiness. Yes we can laugh at the outdated graphics now, but beneath it all there is a genuinely terrifying story to behold within Silent Hill, and one that any fan of survival-horror should experience.
Konami’s engine in the beginning was not really up to the job which is why they created the mist filled world of Silent Hill. Luckily it actually worked in their favour and the mist lent its self to the isolation and disorientation the player was to feel when traversing the world.
This is without a doubt one of my favourite games of all time, and if the upcoming Silent Hill: Downpour can take the game back to it’s roots, it will potentially be able to dethrone the new King of Survival-Horror in Dead Space.
